What is this medicine used for?

For the management of Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Panic Disorders with or without agoraphobia, social phobia and post-traumatic stress disorder and as part of the management of bulimia nervosa for the reduction of associated binge-eating and purging activity as a complement of psychotherapy.

How much and how often should you use this medicine?

For oral administration. Initial dose is 20mg once daily for major depressive episodes. Depression in children aged 8 years and over, initial doses of 10mg should be increased to 20mg daily after 1 week. For Bulimia nervosa, initial dose of 60mg once daily is recommended. For obsessive-compulsive disorder in children aged 7 years and over, the starting dose is 10mg daily. For elderly, a lower or less frequent dose is recommended in elderly patients as well as patients with hepatic impairment.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to Fluoxetine or any of its excipients.

Warning and Precautions:

Because of their epileptogenic effect, SSRIs should be used with caution in patients with epilepsy or a history of such disorders (and should be avoided if the epilepsy is poorly controlled). Treatment should be stopped if seizures develop or when there is an increase in seizure frequency.
