Medicine Information

Indication:

• For the treatment of acute bacterial sinusitis.
• Community-acquired pneumonia.
• Uncomplicated skin structure infections.
• Complicated urinary tract infections.
• Chronic bacterial prostatitis.

Dosage & Administration:

Usual Adult Dose: Orally, 500 mg once every 24 hours.

Contraindication:

Hypersensitivity to levofloxacin, other quinolones, or to any component of the product.

Warnings and Precautions:

• Fluoroquinolones, including levofloxacin, are associated with an increased risk of tendinitis and tendon rupture in all ages. This risk is further increased in older patients, usually over 60 years of age, in patients taking corticosteroid drugs, and in patients with kidney, heart, or lung transplants.
• Fluoroquinolones, including levofloxacin, may exacerbate muscle weakness in persons with myasthenia gravis. Avoid levofloxacin in patients with a known history of myasthenia gravis.

Undesirable Effects:

• Common: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, headache, insomnia, and dizziness.

Interaction with other medicaments:

• Antacids
• Anti-arrhythmic drugs
• Antidepressants
• Antidiabetic drugs
• Ciclosporin and tacrolimus
• Corticosteroids
• Digoxin
• Fluconazole
• NSAIDs
• Probenecid and Cimetidine
• Theophylline
• Warfarin
• Zidovudine
